Every day is ‘World Bicycle Day’ for Ford

On Saturday June 3, people around the globe will celebrate the “uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle” during World Bicycle Day. At Ford we’ve been celebrating bicycles for some time already, whether through past sponsorships of elite cycling teams or promoting harmony between all road users through our Share the Road initiative.

More recently we’ve taken what may seem like an unusual step for a car maker; encouraging car users to choose active travel for shorter journeys with our Park the Car initiative. As presenting partner of RideLondon-Essex in the UK on May 28, we took the opportunity to let even more people know about this, from the Ford employees who wore special T-shirts as they volunteered around the 100-mile course to our very own riders who wore Park the Car cycling jerseys.

Of course, there were Ford vehicles present too, including electric Mustang Mach-E 1 and E-Transit 1 models, as well as a Kuga Plug-In Hybrid driven by the race director of RideLondon Classique (the three-day UCI Women’s World Tour stage race). We were also title sponsor of the Queen of the Mountains competition during that event.

In France, we’ve been backing cyclists by partnering with the Rockrider Ford Racing Team for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup. The competition’s rugged courses will stretch from Europe to Canada and the US over the rest of the year, passing through nine countries in total. It’s an adventurous undertaking that ties in closely with our DNA, highlighted by vehicles like Explorer, 2 Bronco 3 and Ranger. 4 The team will proudly be showing off our logo with a fleet of Ford vehicles in support, so keep your eyes peeled for them.

In the meantime, if you’re planning on making a short journey this World Bicycle Day, why not consider parking the car and taking a bicycle instead. Who knows, one day it might be you competing in events like RideLondon-Essex or the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup!
