Exploring reinvented: Introducing our new, all-electric Explorer

What happens when you take an iconic American SUV and reimagine it for the electric age?

You get our new, all-electric Ford Explorer, an innovative five-seat family vehicle that combines high quality German engineering with striking American style.

The futuristically-styled crossover is the first in a wave of new electric models we are introducing as we reinvent our brand in Europe. It’s also the first to be built at scale in our new Ford Cologne EV Centre in Germany.

With about 470 litres of storage space – including a console between the front seats that’s big enough to swallow a 15-inch laptop or road trip-sized collection of water bottles – Explorer is fully equipped to set families on the road to adventure.

There’s even a secure private locker for hiding your valuables while off exploring. It’s concealed behind the large, moveable touchscreen 1 that can be raised or lowered to find the perfect position for viewing navigation, using apps that can be wirelessly integrated from your smartphone, 2 or setting your charging schedules for a full battery and warm cabin in the morning.

Talking of comfort, we’ve made sure Explorer is fully loaded with kit to keep you as refreshed at your destination as when you set out. Inside the concept car-like interior with sculpted seats and stylish soundbar speaker, heated fronts seats and steering wheel are standard, as is a massaging driver’s seat and a wireless device charger. 3

Keyless entry is also standard, alongside climate control that allows the driver and front passenger to choose their own temperatures. Other available technologies include a handsfree tailgate and a new driving feature that lets you change lanes on the motorway simply by using the indicator stalk. 4

Drivers will be able to charge their Explorer from 10 to 80 per cent in an anticipated 25 minutes, 5 with access to 450,000 chargers across Europe, growing to half a million by 2024. Prices are anticipated from less than €45,000 when the adventure-ready new model is available to order later this year. 6

We’ve also announced we’re teaming up with travel adventure influencer Lexie Alford – known to millions as Lexie Limitless, the youngest person to visit every country in the world – for a global expedition in our new Explorer.

The trip is inspired by pioneering female explorer, Aloha Wanderwell, who set a record 100 years ago with a round-the-world trip in our iconic Ford Model T.

Stay tuned for more details before the epic journey begins later this year, and check out the all-electric Explorer reveal featuring Lexie, here: https://ford.to/ExploringReinventedLive
