Ford sim-racing simulator helping injured patients on the road to recovery

If you’re in a serious accident and are unfortunate enough to suffer major spinal injuries, then inevitably you’ll face a long path of physical rehabilitation. Yet, for many, the psychological battles can be almost as challenging, especially when it comes to getting behind the wheel of a car again.

We’re hoping to provide part of the solution with our award-winning simracing simulator – now a permanent fixture at the National Hospital for Paraplegics in Toledo, Spain. Applying the same technologies we use in our Ford Adapta road vehicles, the simracing simulator allows patients who have suffered severe spinal injuries to safely take to virtual roads. This helps psychologically getting to grips with the feel of driving again, while also learning how to use the specially adapted controls without the nervousness that may occur if doing so for the first time on real roads.

Having already unveiled our first-ever all-electric car designed for people with reduced mobility, the Mustang Mach-E Ford Adapta, in Spain, this latest development will hopefully help people facing physical difficulties to imagine life on the road again.
