Team Fordzilla adapted simulator wins award

When our Team Fordzilla sim-racing drivers noticed people with reduced mobility struggled to participate in races – because they could only compete using traditional console controllers – we had an idea; adapt a race simulator in the same way our Ford Adapta programme adapts real cars.

Our team in Spain joined forces with Hi-Speed Simulators, its dealer network and the ONCE Foundation to do just that.  The result was the creation of the only simulator of its kind, incorporating elements like a steering wheel with paddles that allow the accelerator and brakes to be operated manually – a technology inspired by our real-world adapted vehicles.

Now, the ESIC in Spain has recognised our Team Fordzilla adapted simulator in its annual Aster Marketing Awards. As the leaders of ESIC pointed out when handing out this award, “marketing, contrary to what many people think, is not about creating sales needs, but about detecting the needs of society and helping it to overcome every day. That is why the Aster Marketing Award falls this year on Ford, for the launch of the first video game simulator adapted within its Corporate Social Responsibility policy”.

It’s a great honour to have our creation recognised in such a way. It’s an even greater feeling knowing that drivers with disabilities and reduced mobility can now join in the competitive fun of sim-racing, principles that underscore what Team Fordzilla is all about.
