E-Transit Custom makes global public debut at world’s biggest transport show

This week, our all-new, all-electric E-Transit Custom van made its global public debut at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany – the largest event of its kind in the world for logistics and transport.
The show was the first chance for many customers and media to get hands-on with our new van’s clever details and smart tech, including a tilting steering wheel that doubles up as a device holder and lunch table, and 5G connectivity that can power the supporting charging and management software that makes running an electric van easy.

We appreciate not every business will be ready to switch to electric vans immediately. That’s why we’re offering a full range of Transit Custom variants. On display was our plug-in hybrid model, providing the best of both worlds with an electric motor for a targeted 57 km of electric-only city driving, 1 as well as an efficient petrol engine for longer distance highway cruising. Our EcoBlue diesel engines are also available with four power outputs and a new eight-speed automatic gearbox to help towing performance 2 and reduce stress, especially in stop-start traffic.

Showgoers could also witness the wild Ford Pro Electric SuperVan in person. This one-off concept shows the pinnacle of Ford Pro’s connectivity and electrification ability, and earlier this year beat a host of racing cars to be one of the fastest vehicles up the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s famous hillclimb.

Our vans are used in scenarios from northern Scandinavia’s snowy roads to gravel tracks on Greek islands. Our latest Transit Custom Trail, also revealed at the show, offers all-wheel drive for improved rough road performance. It also has rugged styling, and cladding on the sills and wheelarches to protect against paint scrapes and loading scuffs.

Trail models are popular with customers who use them as work vans in the week and as bases for weekend adventures at grassy campsites or sandy seaside car parks, where extra grip and generous loadspace for all their kit really count.

Half of all Transits sold are converted, and our IAA Transportation stand showcased the breadth of options available. The new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System headlined the offering – this new tech can control converted features such as winches, lights and ramps via the in-cab touchscreen for faster conversions and improved ease of use.

The full conversion range showed the versatility of the all-electric E-Transit, and included a blank canvas chassis, a fridge van and a wheelchair-accessible minibus. You can explore the full stand here:

1 Officially homologated driving range will be published closer to on-sale date.

2 Max towing varies based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories and number of passengers.
