Team Fordzilla racer is champion at 10 years old
A few months ago we put the spotlight on our youngest Team Fordzilla driver, the talented 9-year-old Abel Torres. Fast forward a little bit and the now 10-year-old driver has started to prove his potential by winning the Spanish Simulation Championship (CES) in the Assetto Corsa Competizione category, racing against drivers of all ages.
Abel was first spotted by Pablo López, a Team Fordzilla Spain driver, at a sim racing event held at the bar Abel’s father runs. When José Iglesias, the Team Fordzilla Spain captain, saw videos of the youngster he was instantly impressed.

“Abel's in another world. As soon as I saw the video, I thought that whoever did not sign him for his team did not know what he was doing.”
Joining the team last year, Abel participated in his first CES in 2019 and it’s taken him just 12 more months to claim his first championship victory. And while competing against and being beaten by a driver so young might be considered humiliating in some sports, the sim racing world is quite different.

“Everyone is aware that Abel is very special, a genius. That is why we take great care of him. If he beats you it is almost an honour.”
Despite the success, Abel is staying grounded and like any other 10-year-old boy he just wants to have fun. "If I go alone, the race becomes boring. What I like the most is going with people fighting," explains the young champion. And that’s the kind of ethos that makes him the perfect fit for Team Fordzilla.
