F-150 Lightning strikes in Norway

When it came to which country would be the first to take our electric F-150 Lightning pickup 1 global, there was always a clear favourite.

Norway is the most progressive electric vehicle market in the world. More than 20 per cent of all the vehicles on its roads are already electric and authorities are pushing for all new car and light commercial vehicle sales to be electric by 2025.

It’s also a country with a passion for the outdoors. In fact, "friluftsliv” – the culture of unwinding in the wilderness – is engrained in the national psyche.

That makes it the perfect destination for a vehicle designed to take on the most challenging terrain with zero tailpipe emissions, and drivers in Norway have been asking us to bring the pickup to their market ever since it launched in the US last May.

Now, customers in Norway are the first outside of the US and Canada able to apply to purchase a strictly limited number of special F‑150 Lightning Lariat Launch Edition models.

Whether carrying enthusiasts’ skiing, fishing or white-water rafting equipment into the wilderness or supporting Norwegian businesses, the electric pickup is anticipated to offer a targeted 386 km EPA-estimated zero-tailpipe emission driving range, 1 almost 3.5-tonne towing capacity 2 and can carry more than 800 kg. 3,4

A dual electric motor, four-wheel drive powertrain produces an impressive 458 PS and 1,050 Nm of torque, enabling performance car acceleration of 0-100 km/h in less than 5 seconds and supported by Normal, Sport, Off-Road, 5 and Tow/Haul drive modes 6 for confidence across a wide variety of terrain.

The pickup can even be used as a power source. Its Pro Power Onboard feature can run tools, electronics, and appliances for work or off-grid camping, via built-in electrical sockets.

Inside, its SYNC 4A infotainment system 7 uses a 15.5-inch digital centre touchscreen that also helps drivers get the most out of features like Pro Trailer Backup Assist, 6 which makes reversing with a trailer simpler using a dedicated controller and letting drivers monitor progress on screen.

The F-150 Lightning Lariat Launch Edition can seat five in its Super Crew Cab body, and comes exclusively in striking Antimatter Blue metallic colour.

“In my 25 years at Ford, I’ve never seen anything like the passion and demand I’m seeing from drivers right now to get behind the wheel of our F-150 Lightning. I’ve had customers literally banging on my door and pleading for us to bring the electric pickup to Norway. F-150 Lightning is the perfect match for many customers in Norway – uniquely capable of quenching our thirst for adventure while embracing our passion for protecting the environment.”

1 Based on EPA estimation (US measurement standard). Officially homologated driving range will be published closer to on-sale date in accordance with the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP). A targeted range of up to 386 km (intended target value according to EPA) can be achieved with a fully charged battery - depending on the existing series and battery configuration. The actual range may vary due to various factors (e.g. weather conditions, driving style, route profile, vehicle condition, age and condition of the lithium-ion battery).

2 Max towing varies based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories and number of passengers.

3 Max payload varies and is based on accessories and vehicle configuration. See label on doorjamb for carrying capacity of a specific vehicle.

4 Power, torque, payload, towing and EPA-estimated driving range are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously.

5 Always consult the Owner’s Manual before off-road driving, know your terrain and trail difficulty, and use appropriate safety gear.

6 Driver-assist features are supplemental to and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle. It does not replace safe driving. See Owner’s Manual for details and limitations.

7 Don’t drive while distracted or while using handheld devices. Use voice-operated systems when possible. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
