Born to be wild: Mum gives birth in Ford Mustang Mach-E

When pregnant Christine Vigsted’s contractions began, she and husband Jens thought there was plenty of time to get to hospital. After all, their first child Thomas had arrived after a long 48-hour labour.

But despite departing for the hospital in good time in their electric car, a Ford Mustang Mach E, 1 Christine’s waters broke just a few minutes into the journey.

Jens pulled over to the side of the road and – with a little remote help from the couple’s midwife – was able to deliver the couple’s second baby, who will be called David.

“The actual birth in the car went really well. Had it been our first child, we would probably have handled it differently, but it was a really nice experience.”

We are pleased to confirm that this is the first time ever a baby has been born in one of our electric vehicles.

“We go to extreme lengths to test for every eventuality, but honestly, giving birth in the front passenger seat is not one of our usual tests. We like to think of our customers as members of the family and in this case, that could not be more true.”

Ford president and CEO
