Gamers use special suits to highlight dangers of alcohol and sleep deprivation when driving
Racers from our Team Fordzilla eSports team have been using
special suits that replicate the effects of being drunk, hungover and tired in
order to demonstrate how their driving in computer games is negatively affected.
Led by Ford Fund, our philanthropic arm of the company and GlobalGiving, our international grant-making partner, to help promote the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme that has been offering free coaching to young drivers in Europe since 2013, the video uses the virtual world to make a very important point about driving in the real world.
The three Team Fordzilla gamers all completed a sober lap first, then tried to replicate it while each wearing one of the special suits… and the comparisons were not good. You can see in the video below not only how the suits work to simulate tiredness, drunkenness or being hungover but also just how dangerous those impairments might be on real-world roads.
The three suits have been used in DSFL training previously and will once again be available at DSFL events in 2022, allowing more young drivers to safely experience for themselves something they’ll hopefully never experience when behind the wheel of a car on public roads.
