Top colours – grey matters

Cactus, Conquer, Magentic and Stone are some of the greys available for our vehicles. Add to that an array of silvers, including Diffused, Iconic, Moondust and Solar, and all these shades of grey combined to account for 35.7 per cent of Fiesta, Focus, Kuga, Mustang Mach-E and Puma vehicles sold last year.

Magentic was the most popular colour selection in Europe for Focus, Puma and Kuga, while Frozen White was the leading selection for Fiesta whereas Mustang Mach-E was most desired in Absolute Black.

This continues the dominant trend for achromatics (black, white and grey) as the leading colour selections for vehicles – 70.8 per cent of Fiesta, Focus, Kuga, Mustang Mach-E and Puma vehicles last year had achromatic colours.

“Typically, grey is a neutral colour that represents control and practicality. The proliferation of grey shades in the automotive market has seen the colour move from niche to trend, with some stunning and head-turning greys now on offer, such as the Carbon Grey available for Mustang Mach-E.”

While Ultimate Grey was Pantone’s colour of the year in 2021, for 2022, Pantone has selected Very Peri, a purple shade. Will this impact colour choices for cars this year? Probably not.
