Kuga drivers passed on the pump in 2021

More than half of the Kuga SUVs we sold last year were hybrids, including 48,000 Kugas that can be plugged in externally to charge up – making it Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid in 2021. 1

And our latest anonymised data shows that drivers are really making the most of its pure electric driving capability.

Across Europe, on average drivers plugged in to charge on 71 per cent of days that they drove, with almost half of recharges taking place overnight so that the car was ready to go the next morning.

Drivers also took advantage of the petrol engine to venture a little further. The number of longer journeys that took place increased in July, August and September, suggesting the hybrid engine made possible plenty of summer road trips.

By using its battery and electric motor to cut the amount of fuel used when driving, we calculated our Kuga Plug-In Hybrid potentially saved drivers approximately 1,100 kg of CO2 compared with a regular petrol version last year. That’s equivalent to a return flight from London to Buenos Aires. 2

“Not every customer is in a position to jump straight from petrol or diesel to a fully electric vehicle. That’s why we designed our Kuga Plug-In Hybrid to offer the best of both worlds, and selling more than any other PHEV in Europe suggests we have the recipe just right.”
