Our new emergency vehicles are making blue lights greener


In an emergency, we all want to know that the help on its way will be fast and reliable, but more-and-more “blue-light” services are looking for ways to make that help arrive with minimal environmental impact too.

Two new emergency vehicles we’ve recently unveiled are designed to do just that.


Our all-electric Mustang Mach-E police car concept combines 3.7-second 1 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) 2 acceleration with zero-emission driving, so it can go hard on criminals and easy on air quality.


Police in London – one of many European cities working to increase electric vehicle adoption – have already trialled the Mustang Mach-E, and six other forces across the UK are waiting to test our demonstrator vehicle.

As well as its high-visibility livery, the specialist modifications include sirens and energy-saving LED lights powered by a separate battery, so police forces needn’t worry about the extra equipment reducing the all-electric SUV’s driving range. 3


Project Siren – our state-of-the-art lightweight ambulance – was seen in public for the first time at the Emergency Services Show in Birmingham, UK.

Produced in partnership with Venari Group, the UK’s largest emergency vehicle provider, it’s based on our Transit van and uses advanced materials and clever engineering to weigh in at under 3,500 kg.  


Its low weight is designed to help improve fuel efficiency, and Project Siren is also compatible with our all-electric E-Transit van, so could be used to create an all-electric ambulance in the future.


Designers worked closely with paramedics to develop the ambulance – joining them on demanding shifts to discover how they can best help deliver the best care to patients. The result is features like intelligent digital tracking that monitors everything from plasters to stretchers for faster restocking, and controls for sirens, lights and communication all placed on one touchscreen for the most user-friendly cab.

The applied standard test procedures enable comparison between different vehicle types and different manufacturers.
