We’re Investing $300m in New Vans, Including Another All-Electric Model

Today we announced a new $300 million investment in our factory in Craiova, Romania, to build a new light van from 2023 – and an all-electric version from 2024.

The factory already employs around 6,000 people, using robot technology to produce the Puma compact SUV and the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that powers many of our smaller vehicles.

Craiova will be the third Ford of Europe factory to build an all-electric vehicle, following our sites in Cologne, Germany and joint venture with Ford Otosan in Kocaeli, Turkey. The upcoming all-electric light van supports our journey towards a zero-emissions future in Europe and forms part of our $22 billion global investment in electrification through 2025.

By 2024, our European commercial vehicle range will be 100 per cent zero-emissions capable, and we expect two thirds of commercial vehicles sold to be all-electric or plug-in hybrid by 2030.

“Adding an all-electric version in 2024 means Craiova will be our third facility in Europe to build an all-electric vehicle. It follows recent investments this year in the Ford Cologne Electrified Vehicle Center in Germany and Ford Otosan’s Kocaeli plant in Turkey and sends another clear signal that we are on an accelerated path to providing our commercial vehicle customers with a zero emissions future in Europe.”

Stuart Rowley, President, Ford of Europe.

UPDATE: Today (28th April 2021), we announced Ford Ion Park – our new global battery centre of excellence.
