M-Sport Ford Will Electrify Rallying From Next Season

The M-Sport Ford rally car will use hybrid power from 2022.

The team has committed to an electrified powertrain from next season until 2024.

Switching to hybrid power is a big change for the World Rally Championship (WRC) and will help make the sport more sustainable while reflecting trends in the automotive industry.

For example, we are introducing 17 new electrified models by the end of this year. We recently committed that by mid-2026, 100 per cent of our passenger vehicle range in Europe will be zero emissions capable, all-electric or plug-in hybrid. We’ll also be completely all-electric by 2030.

M-Sport Ford is currently competing with a Ford EcoBoost petrol-powered Fiesta WRC car, and will now work with the FIA to help develop the hybrid technology that will be used in WRC next season.

The team is one of the most successful partnerships in rallying history, with seven world championship titles, 61 victories, 262 podiums and more than 1500 stage wins since joining forces in 1997.
