10 Things You May Have Missed About the Explorer Plug-In Hybrid

Could our Explorer Plug-In Hybrid be the ultimate family SUV?

Able to carry seven people in luxury, handle tough terrain and drive using pure electric power, we certainly think so.

The super-versatile Explorer is one of 17 electrified vehicles we are introducing before the end of this year.

Seven-seat electric driving.
Using a sophisticated plug-in-hybrid powertrain, the Explorer can travel up to 42 km1 (WLTP) purely on electric power, while carrying seven people in comfort.
Space and pace.
Explorer delivers more power and torque than a standard Mustang V8 sports car, and is capable of 0-100 km/h in just 6.0 seconds. There’s even a dedicated Sport drive mode to enhance the driving fun.
Power for your people.
Five 12-volt power points, four USB ports and a wireless charging pad make it easy for occupants to keep smartphones, tablets and other devices charged on the move.
Effortless towing.
By combining petrol and electric power, the Explorer can tow up to 2,500 kg,2 – equivalent to the kerb weight of more than two Ford Fiesta small cars – with a dedicated Tow/Haul drive mode3 for control and confidence.
Spend less, get more.
Explorer features a 980-watt B&O Sound System,4 a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, Tri-Zone Electronic Temperature Control, Active Park Assist 2, 3 Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, 3 power adjustable massage front seats and a FordPass Connect modem5 all as standard for €76,000,6 offering incredible value for money.
Ready for adventure.
Explorers are never done, and using the Trail, Slippery, and Deep Snow/Sand drive modes in its Terrain Management System,3 the Explorer can handle adventurous terrain comfortably, even in EV Now electric driving mode.
Fuss-free parking.
Larger vehicles can be more stressful to park, so Explorer’s Active Park Assist 2 technology3 allows fully automated parking in parallel and perpendicular spaces. Park-out Assist 3 will help when exiting spaces, too.
As comfortable as your favourite armchair.
Explorer has your back; front row seats feature heating, ventilation and electric adjustment, and second row seats are also heated. Third row seats can be folded or raised at the push of a button.
Easy EV.
Explorer gives drivers control of its electric power by selecting from EV Now, EV Later, EV Auto and EV Charge modes. Choose when to use zero-emission driving, when to save battery power for later, when to let the vehicle decide and when to recharge the battery while driving.
Big where you need it.
Each Explorer seat provides close to 1 metre of
space between the seat base and the roof – so even a team of basketball players can get comfortable. With the rear five seats folded there’s up to 2,274 litres of load space – equivalent to more than 10 typical bathtubs.7
