Paralympian receives world’s first adapted Ranger Raptor

Gema Hassen-Bey is a three-time Olympic medalist who competed at five consecutive Paralympic Games in fencing and carried the torch at the 2004 Games in Athens.

Now, Gema is a proud owner of a Ford Ranger Raptor, the first vehicle of its kind to be adapted for the needs of a person in a wheelchair.

Gema, from Spain, is an ambassador for our Adapta programme, a motivational speaker and journalist, and is seeking to become the first woman in a wheelchair to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Despite the adversities, the most important thing is to continue dreaming, enjoying the road, and overcoming all obstacles, as I will be able to do thanks to the off-road capability of this Ranger Raptor.

The President of Ford Spain, Jesús Alonso, and Ignacio de Benito, CEO and manager of the Ford Deysa dealership presented Gema with her new Raptor.

The Ford Adapta specialists included a Turny EVO driver’s seat with an electric swivel, power exit and lowering. While the brake and accelerator are on the steering wheel, they do not disable the original pedals, so the vehicle can be used by different drivers. Ramps have also been installed to facilitate wheelchair access.

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we wish Gema lots of fun and adventure in her new Ranger Raptor.
