New Tech Steers Drivers Away from Blind-Spot Side-Swipes
Modern roads with lots of traffic can make driving a challenging experience. For example, many drivers will have checked and double-checked their mirrors before changing lanes, only to find a car has appeared seemingly from nowhere.
Turning across traffic at a junction can also be a stressful manoeuvre.
We’ve introduced some new driver assistance technologies designed to help drivers in these situations.
One system uses radar to scan the road behind, checking for overtaking vehicles. Should you start to change lanes when another vehicle is in, or about to enter, your blind spot, the system can deliver a warning and help you steer back into your lane to prevent a collision.
Another technology uses radar and a camera to scan the road ahead for oncoming vehicles when turning across traffic. If you begin to turn across another vehicle, the system can apply the brakes to mitigate or prevent a collision.
Both technologies make their global debut on our Ford Kuga SUV.
