Stay Home Rally

Across Europe many of us are having to stay at home. It’s hard, but it’s important. And now even toys appear to be getting the message.

One little Fiesta, more famous for causing drifting carnage on our YouTube channel over the years, has even made its own video to remind us of all the things we should be doing to stay safe. Which includes being kind to housebound elephants.

The video is shot using stop motion animation and uses around 700 individual photographs to create the effect. If you want to try doing something similar at home, here are some top tips:

  • Stop motion films are made up of 100s of photographs put together to create the illusion of movement. You can use any camera to take these, then use movie editing software like iMovie to stitch them together. Or use apps on your phone or tablet (like StopMotion for iPhone) that do it all in one place.
  • Keep your camera as still as possible and in one position.
  • Try to shoot in artificial light so you don’t get sunlight changing the brightness of the different images.
  • Have patience. You need to move characters in your movie a very small amount between photos and it can be time-consuming and annoying.
  • If you get frustrated, take a break and go back to it. It’s worth it in the end.
