New conversion-ready model makes building a bespoke Ranger easier

A rugged off-road vehicle that can carry people and specialist equipment into hard-to-reach places is often a necessity in industries such as construction, forestry or mountain rescue.

To help these specialists build exactly the right tool for the job, we’ve introduced a new chassis cab version of our award-winning Ranger pick-up. It’s just like the standard pick-up at the front – but the exposed rear section behind the cab offers the perfect blank canvas for customisation.

It provides a tough, four-wheel drive1 base for customers to create their own bespoke conversions to suit individual requirements, such as tipper trucks, emergency services equipment and cherry pickers.

Customers can rely on our partner network of almost 200 Qualified Vehicle Modifiers in 13 countries to build safe, approved conversions with warranties matching our standard vehicles.

A range of enhancements from Ford Special Vehicle Options is also available. This includes high-output batteries for uprated electrics, trailer towing equipment and interfaces to link the converted elements to the base vehicle – for example, to prevent a tipper from operating until the vehicle is in neutral with the handbrake on.

The Ranger chassis cab gets its go-anywhere ability from a powerful 170 PS 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine2 and standard four-wheel drive, 1which helps navigate steep hills, rough or slippery terrain, and supports towing trailers up to 3,500 kg. 3The off-road suspension offers 237 mm of ground clearance and helps drivers cross water obstacles up to 800 mm deep.

Ranger chassis cab will be available to order from January 2021.

1 Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle.
2 Fuel efficiency and CO2 emission data will dependent on homologation of converted vehicles using FordEtis WLTP CO2 Calculation Tool.
3 Max towing varies based on cargo, vehicle configuration, accessories and number of passengers. Towing limits quoted represent the maximum towing ability of the vehicle at its Gross Vehicle Mass to restart on a 12 per cent gradient at sea level. The performance and economy of all models will be reduced when used for towing.
